17+ Most Hated Music Videos In YouTube History

There's no question that YouTube has changed the way we consume pop culture, and music in particular. Seriously, when was the last time you watched a music video on TV? I bet you can't even remember the last time, right?

YouTube is where music videos live and die these days.

Despite every YouTuber telling us to "mash that like button" at the end of their videos, there's always, of course, the OTHER button.

YouTube | Jake Paul

The dislike button is something of a badge of dishonor, letting content creators know that, nah, fam, this just isn't going to cut it.

Sometimes the dislike is earned because the video just doesn't hold up to a standard we're used to.

YouTube | Taylor Swift

Other times, people might dislike a video simply as a protest against how popular the song in question is.

We're going to be taking a look at the most disliked music videos in the history of YouTube.

YouTube | Jacob Sartorius

We'll show you the stats and try to get an idea of just what people hated so much about these videos.

Some videos are being left out, despite the numbers.

YouTube | Misha / Mishovy silenosti

Mainly because it's debatable whether they're actually "music videos."

Misha's "POKEMON GO SONG!!!" for instance, has an incredible 1.7 million dislikes, but its status as a true music video is debatable.

"Dark Horse" by Katy Perry (feat. Juicy J)

YouTube | Katy Perry

Dislikes — 975,000

"Dark Horse" actually has one of the better like-to-dislike ratios of any video on this list. It has almost 2.5 billion views, and haters are always gonna hate, so it's bound to happen.

"Boyfriend" by Justin Bieber

YouTube | Justin Bieber

Dislikes — 983,000

People absolutely love to hate Justin Bieber on YouTube. Sure, the 4 million likes it's up against speak to his fandom being bigger, but I think it's safe to bet that not everyone who clicked the dislike button watched it all the way through and is voting based on their artistic opinion.

"Shape of You" by Ed Sheeran

YouTube | Ed Sheeran

Dislikes — 1,000,000

I'm not going to lie, I unabashedly love this song. With almost 4 billion views, however, it's no surprise that a million people or so decided they didn't like it. Or hey, maybe they just didn't buy the boxing gym love story.

"Swish Swish" by Katy Perry (feat. Nicki Minaj)

YouTube | Katy Perry

Dislikes — 1,000,000

At the beginning of the video, the commentators of the basketball game say they're about to see something "unwatchable" and "eye-gouging," and apparently many, many YouTubers agreed.

"Me Solta" by Nego do Borel

YouTube | Canal KnodZilla

Dislikes — 1,100,000

Now, my Portuguese is rusty, but as best as I can tell, the reason this Brazilian bop is getting so many dislikes stems from the fact that Nego do Borel plays a character, which he calls "Nega da Borelli."

The video shows Borel dancing with and kissing a man, drawing criticism from a) homophobic people and b) members of the LGBT community for caricaturing a gay character, reports Jornal O Globo.

"Dame Tu Cosita" by El Chombo

YouTube | Ultra Music

Dislikes — 1,100,000

If Crazy Frog and the Dancing Baby had a...well, a baby, it would be "Dame Tu Cosita." The video is literally just whatever that thing is up there dancing — mostly with its hips — for three minutes. I'm not about to criticize anyone for disliking this one.

"Frick Da Police" by RiceGum

YouTube | RiceGum

Dislikes — 1,100,000

There's no drama quite like YouTuber drama. When Ian Carter dropped a "Content Cop" video called "Asian Jake Paul" about RiceGum, the YouTuber clapped back with this cringey diss track.

"Look What You Made Me Do" by Taylor Swift

YouTube | Taylor Swift

Dislikes — 1,200,000

While her stans certainly outnumber her haters, Taylor Swift is not without her fair share of detractors. I'd argue, though, that the video for "Look What You Made Me Do" is the best part of the song.

"Gucci Gang" by Lil Pump

YouTube | Lil pump

Dislikes — 1,200,000

Mumble rap isn't for everybody, but when your song is basically just you saying "Gucci Gang" an infinite number of times, some YouTube users are going to have an opinion about it.

"We Can't Stop" by Miley Cyrus

YouTube | Miley Cyrus

Dislikes — 1,300,000

This phase of Miley's career was a choice that not everybody could get behind.

But at least "We Can't Stop" isn't the most disliked song off of her Bangerz album. We'll get to that soon.

"Sorry" by Justin Bieber

YouTube | Justin Bieber

Dislikes — 1,400,000

It's tough to say exactly why "Sorry" caught more flak than other videos. Maybe it's just that it has a staggering 3 billion views. Maybe it's because Bieber isn't actually in the video, which features the New Zealand-based ReQuest Dance Crew.

"Wrecking Ball" by Miley Cyrus

YouTube | Miley Cyrus

Dislikes — 1,400,000

Looking at the recent comments on "Wrecking Ball" give a hint about why this song caught so much hate.

This was the first time people saw the "new" Miley, and they were definitely upset about how completely she had abandoned her squeaky clean image.

"Anaconda" by Nicki Minaj

YouTube | Nicki Minaj

Dislikes — 1,500,000

It's hard to ignore how explicit the video for "Anaconda" is, and that seems to be the source of a lot of its criticism.

"Sweatshirt" by Jacob Sartorius

YouTube | Jacob Sartorius

Dislikes — 2,000,000

Jacob Sartorius' breakout song has a devastating dislike ratio, with only 717,000 likes to balance out the 2 million dislikes. More than a few commenters brag about coming to the video specifically to dislike it.

"Gangnam Style" by PSY

YouTube | officialpsy

Dislikes — 2,100,000

As the first YouTube video to break 1 billion views, it's likely just a byproduct of its popularity that it's caught so many dislikes.

"How It Is (Wap Bap)" by Bibi H

YouTube | BibisBeautyPalace

Dislikes — 2,800,000

With "How It Is," German beauty vlogger Bibi H tried to break into the music scene.

Audiences didn't find a taste for the bizarre, low-stakes English lyrics, and flooded the video with over a million dislikes within a few days. Other critics pointed out the song's similarity to Lenka's hit song, "The Show."

"Friday" by Rebecca Black

YouTube | rebecca

Dislikes — 3,300,000

Among the most notorious videos on YouTube, Rebecca Black's iconic autotuned vanity video is specifically famous for its infamous quality.

"Despacito" by Luis Fonsi (feat. Daddy Yankee)

YouTube | LuisFonsi

Dislikes — 3,600,000

As a long-time record-holder for the most-viewed video in YouTube history with 5.6 billion views, the fact that "Despacito" only has as many dislikes as it does is an accomplishment in and of itself.

"It's Everyday Bro" by Jake Paul

YouTube | Jake Paul

Dislikes — 3,900,000

When it comes to YouTube vanity projects, there's probably no bigger example than Jake Paul and Team 10's single "It's Everyday Bro."

The video is all about the crew flexing about how much money they make on YouTube. But monetization can't save you from dislikes.

"Baby" by Justin Bieber (feat. Ludacris)

YouTube | Justin Bieber

Dislikes — 9,600,000

When it comes to dislikes on YouTube, there's simply no competition with "Baby". It's coming up on 10 million dislikes. I wouldn't be surprised if people have signed up for multiple accounts specifically to show their hatred for Bieber.
