Sophie Turner Opened Up About Her Sexuality And It Sparked A Major Debate

Game Of Thrones star, Sophie Turner, has quite the year ahead of her. Not only is she partaking in the dramatic eighth and final season of Game Of Thrones, she is also going to be a part of the next X-Men movie, Dark Phoenix.

As her career is flexing its muscles, she's decided to take a moment to open up about her sexuality.

In a recent interview with Rolling Stone, Sophie candidly spoke about her relationship with Joe Jonas.

Sophie and Joe got engaged back in 2017, when she was just 21 years old.

She told the mag, "I think once you’ve found the right person, you just know."

"I feel like I’m much older a soul than I am in age. I feel like I’ve lived enough life to know," she explained.

The two have been dating since November 2016.

Remember when Sophie Turner lived all our teenage dreams and posted this pic confirming their relationship?

Of course, that's cute and all but that's absolutely not what we're here to discuss, lol.

The part of the interview that Twitter took and ran with was when Sophie was discussing her dating history.

When discussing how she knew Joe was the one, Sophie told "Rolling Stone" she's dated enough to know.

"I've met enough guys to know — I've met enough girls to know," [she said]((https://www.rollingstone.com/movies/movie-features/game-of-thrones-cover-story-maisie-williams-sophie-turner-812203/).

The fact that she mentioned "girls" caught the attention of the interviewer — and so they pressed onward.

"Everyone experiments," she said, adding: "It's part of growing up. I love a soul. Not a gender."

Naturally, fans reacted to the news of Sophie announcing that her sexual preference is not fixed on either gender.

The LGBT community seemed very excited about this.

Some considered Sophie's announcement "another win for the gays".

She seems to be welcomed with open arms into the LGBT community — rightfully so.

This person claims that they already guessed that Sophie would eventually come out, in one way or another.

At least they specified that she "lowkey" came out.

It was definitely far from outright coming out.

This person just wanted to remind everyone that Sophie never labeled her sexuality, and that everyone who is labeling it for her is just being nosy.

At the end of the day, it really isn't anybody's business how Sophie identifies. Furthermore, she is engaged to someone already, so it's even less of a public matter.

But the excitement quickly turned into a debate about labelling her sexuality, when she in fact, did not specify how she would like to be identified.

Because Sophie never outright identified herself as lesbian, pansexual, bisexual, etc. — some fans were upset that her label was being decided for her.

One fan pointed out that Sophie is a real person, not a fictional character — who is able to decide for herself how she would like to be labelled.

They went on to say, that it is not up to the public to label people however they see fit.

This person pointed out that Sophie does not necessarily have to label herself at all.

However she chooses to identify is her business — and not ours to decide for her.

Some even accused Sophie of invalidating pansexuality.

Pansexuality — meaning someone that is attracted to those of any gender identity.

Bisexuality, on the other hand, simply means you are attracted to people of all genders.

Others don't believe that Sophie truly admitted to coming out — to any extent.

They added that Sophie claimed to have experimented in the past, but that may not mean she "came out."

Sophie's "Game Of Thrones" co-star, Maisie Williams — who was also a part of the Rolling Stone interview, chimed in about her sexuality in a 2016 interview with Nylon.

Looks like Sophie isn't the only Game Of Thrones star to open up about her sexuality.

"I've never sat up and thought about my sexuality for hours," Maisie said.

"It's like what Shailene Woodley said: 'I fall in love with personalities and not people or genders.' I have no problem with anyone who would want to be labeled, but I also think that it is no one's business," she added.

Do you think that Sophie's comment qualified as "coming out"?

Are fans right for assuming that she is bisexual? Or are they overstepping?

Either way, the good news is that she shamelessly felt comfortable to disclose the fact that she has experimented with girls in the past.

That is another win for humanity!
