Heroic Cat Stops Toddler From Falling Down The Stairs In Viral Video

There are plenty of jokes about how cats don't care at all about what happens to humans, but here's a video that shows how wrong those assumptions just might be.

Sadly, we don't have a lot of context for the video itself.

It appears to be from a home security system and was shared on the Fundación Gatos Bogotanos en Adopción (GABA) Facebook group.

In it, you can see an apparently unattended toddler crawling around on the floor.

They interact with a cat that's perched on the couch and then begins to crawl towards the bottom of the frame.

That's when the cat suddenly springs into action, tackling the child and forcing them back into the room.

It even lingers, as though making sure that the kid won't try to go that way again.

The action is sudden and seemingly out of nowhere.

The cat's intensity can easily be mistaken for an angry attack. It flails and hits the child with its paws.

But the Facebook post provides some very important context: this photo of what was just out of frame.

You can see the open door in the video, but not that it opens directly to a set of narrow stairs.

Had the cat not stopped the child, they might have tumbled all the way down.

The stairs are all tiled and presumably, the darkness at the base of the stairs doesn't hide a cushion.

Of course, there's no way to know for sure what the cat was thinking.

But whether it understood the danger and acted or it was just a timely freak out, it prevented an accident.

Not all heroes wear capes. Sometimes, they're just very quick kitties.

It probably isn't surprising to learn that people began questioning the parents.

At no point in the video is another human seen, not even a distracted parent rushing over to see what the commotion was about.

The time code also says that it's 4:53 in the morning.

Why is a toddler outside their crib or playpen at such an early time without supervision, and with a stairwell door open, too?

The room is strange too, with what seems to be a stained cement floor.

We'll likely never learn the whole story here, but what we do know is that the cat did good and hopefully, the child won't be in danger like this again.
