Giant Mural Of Teen Climate Activist Greta Thunberg Now Watches Over San Francisco

Swedish climate activist Greta Thunberg is now keeping a watchful eye over pedestrians in San Francisco's downtown core, where an artist is completing a massive mural honoring the influential teen.

According to CNN, Argentine muralist Andrés Petreselli, who works under the pseudonym Cobre, said he was compelled to paint Thunberg's likeness because he feels connected to everything the young activist has done to try and save the planet.

Thunberg's unsmiling, grave profile is located at 420 Mason St, right near Union Square.

The mural features the teen from the chest up as she gazes into the eyes and souls of passers-by.

Her purse-lipped, serious expression demands to know what you're doing to prevent climate change, one which anyone would feel compelled to stop at marvel at as they contemplate their own actions. Or, perhaps, inaction.

The nonprofit organization One Atmosphere sponsored Cobre's project because they want to focus on art celebrating climate activists.

"If we can amplify her message and get more people involved and listening to what she's saying, then we're doing some good," executive director Paul Scott told CNN.

He said the mural's reaction has been overwhelmingly positive.

He also said that most of the negative reactions have been from people who don't recognize Thunberg but who are "struck by the image and want to learn more."

Cobre wants admirers of his stunning art to understand that "climate change is real."

“This girl Greta is awesome and she knows what she’s doing," the artist told SF Gate. "I hope with this mural people will realize we have to take care of the world."

He expects the mural will be completed by Tuesday.

It joins several other of Cobre's murals, which have graced the Bay Area's buildings. These include one of Robin Williams, which is how Scott discovered Cobre's work, and which was recently demolished.

This isn't the first time Thunberg has been honored with a beautiful mural.

The inspiring activist has another particularly powerful portrait in Bristol, England, where she was painted partially submerged in glacial water, much like the icebergs she's encouraging everyone to try and save.

Another mural was painted of the activist in Edmonton, Canada, but it has been defaced several times.
