Texas Husband, 106, And Wife, 105, Officially Named World's Oldest Married Couple

If you ask John Henderson what the secret to a long and happy marriage is, he'll tell you it all has to do with two simple things: "Live life in moderation and be cordial to your spouse."

Why does John's opinion matter? Well, if there's anyone you should trust to give you the right answer to that question, I think it's definitely someone who's been with the same person for nearly 80 years.

In fact, I'd go so far as to say they're the only person you should ever ask.

John and his wife, Charlotte, are gearing up to celebrate their 80th anniversary next month.

But that's not all these two lovebirds have to celebrate lately.

According to CNN, 106-year-old John and 105-year-old Charlotte have just officially been named the world's oldest married couple by Guinness World Records.

The couple met back in 1934 during the Great Depression.

At the time, they were both attending the University of Texas. Charlotte was studying to be a teacher while John was the guard for the school's football team.

Five years later, in 1939, they married in a modest ceremony — a necessity, considering the financial situation of the era.

In fact, they spent just $7 on their honeymoon hotel.

But to say that their love and marriage has stood the test of time feels like a serious understatement.

The couple lived happily on their own for 70 years before eventually moving into Longhorn Village Senior Living Community in 2009.

With a combined age of 211 years, you might think that John and Charlotte would have slowed down by now. But the two are still very healthy, and John says he still exercises every day.

And not only is he one half of the oldest couple in the world, he also holds the honor of being the oldest living former U of T football player.

John even makes sure to attend at least one Longhorn football game every year for the past 84 years. Now that's one dedicated alumnus!

As the Hendersons approach December 15, when they'll officially have been married for 80 years, I'm sure they can look back on their marriage and feel nothing but pride. Not because they've been awarded a title in a book, but because their incredible love story has lasted more than eight decades.
