10+ Problematic Male Characters On TV That Are Loved Anyway

These are the men from TV that may have been funny, may have made us feel an emotion or two here or there, but all in all, were super problematic.

But, most of these characters have actually stood the test of time and have gone down as some of the most beloved characters!

So really, does it matter in the end?

Ted Mosby

CBS

From How I Met Your Mother.

He's got a lot of problems, but let's start with Stella. He is so convinced that he can change her no to a yes to be with him that it's downright creepy.

Kilgrave

Netflix

From Jessica Jones.

Yes, he's the villain and he's supposed to be problematic, but his form of toxicity came in one that isn't usually shown... he was trying to control Jessica by being nice to her on occasion.

Ben Warren

ABC

From Grey's Anatomy.

Probably the worst part about Dr. Warren is how he plays the victim.

Whenever he or the hospital was in trouble, he always acts like he is the victim in the situation.

Dawson Leery

WB

From Dawson's Creek.

Poor Joey. This guy is always taking advantage of her friendship. And when she talks about her love of art, he dismisses it as some hobby.

What a jerk!

Spike

WB

From Buffy The Vampire Slayer.

Well, this one is a no brainer.

Considering the fact that he tries to kill all of Buffy's friends and tries to rape her, it's safe to say he's pretty toxic.

George O'Malley

ABC

From Grey's Anatomy. Stage Five clinger. The epitome of a "nice guy".

He sticks to Meredith, desperate for her attention, then gets all pissed off when she finds a guy who's a lot more suitable.

Joey Gladstone

ABC

From Full House. Total loser bum!

He doesn't pay rent and he can never keep a job for very long. Sure, he "helps" raise the girls, but is that really payment enough?

Jim Halpert

NBC

From The Office.

Not only is he selfish, not only is he a homewrecker, but he's a huge bully when it comes to Dwight.

This won't be the last time a character from The Office shows up.

Every single dude from 'The Big Bang Theory'

TBS

These guys are the worst.

A pack of roving misogynists, these men treat women less like people with thoughts, and more like quests. Something to conquer.

It's downright despicable, to be honest.

Chuck

CW

From Gossip Girl. This guy is super aggressive, especially if we're talking sex.

And we learn about this side of him in the series' pilot, so it's all downhill from there.

Michael Scott

NBC

From The Office.

I know you love him. I know he's a dork. But he's also a total and complete self-centered jerk.

He's racist, he's sexist and above all, he's a bully.

Ross Geller

NBC

From Friends.

Oh god. What isn't there to say about how Ross is toxic?

He's super possessive of Rachel, he hated the idea of Ben (his son) playing with Barbies, and don't get me started on the male nanny bit...

Archie Andrews

CW

From Riverdale. Mostly this guy is immature.

He rejects Betty, then gets all pissed off when she starts dating Jughead and then makes out with Veronica just to make Betty jealous.

Luke Danes

CW

From Gilmore Girls. This guy is more than just a grump with a heart of gold.

He's a slut-shamer for starters, he's a homophobe and he's so weirded out about why no one wanted to mourn his uncle...who was basically a sexual predator.
