Boozy Gin Mayo Exists, And Our Lunch Isn't Ready For It

If you're Dutch or know anyone who's Dutch, or if you just really like mayonnaise on fries, then you may be familiar with the Dutch delicacy that is Patat Frites, or Vlaamse Frites.

Essentially, the street food dish consists of fries nestled in a paper cone with a couple sauces on the side. Their fritessaus, or sweet mayo, is a must.

Naturally, of course, a gin restaurant in Amsterdam created a boozy gin mayo for their patrons to eat with fries and mussels while they sip on gin and tonics.

The restaurant is called Mossel en Gin, and they have become famous not only for their mussel and fries, but also their Gin Mayo condiment.

Mayonnaise is already contested as is. Now you add gin to the mixture? Oh boy.

Speaking to Erin Alexander over at Food52, one of the owners, Wouter ten Velde, explained that the idea came from co-owner Josh Shelter wanting to create an on-brand condiment that customers could enjoy in their restaurants.

The wild condiment mixes their love for gin with the national and popular condiment.

So, what the heck is in it?

Mayonnaise, ketchup, and gin are the stars of the show, which are then mixed with the right proportion of herbs and sugar.

Before you wince so hard that your face stays like that, it's apparently pretty good!

Alexander had a chance to try it and said it tasted close to a shrimp cocktail sauce: tangy, salty, and a little sweet.

Now, here's the thing — it has a decent amount of alcohol in it.

For such a small tube (170 mL), it has 2% alcohol content in it.

You'll definitely want to eat responsibly!

Wouter eats it with everything and anything, from burgers, to eggs, salmon, and of course, fried foods.

If you're daring enough to zhuzh up your meals, you can order it on Chelsea Market Baskets for $6 a tube.
