Couple Struggling With Infertility Welcomes Son After 'Win A Baby' Radio Contest

Radio stations often host contests, giving away prizes of all kinds. Some give away concert tickets, others give away money, and then some apparently give away babies.

In 2017, one Florida radio station was giving away the "gift of life."

The radio station, B103.9, held a “Win a Baby” contest, but they weren't actually giving away a child (just in case you were wondering).

Instead, they were kindly looking for a way to help those who couldn't have children.

The radio station was offering the opportunity to have the cost of in vitro fertilization (IVF) treatment and the accompanying medication completely covered.

For couples struggling with pregnancy, this contest was like a blessing.

And, one couple was lucky enough to win the contest.

Krista and Anthony Rivera, of Cape Coral, Florida were the lucky winners.

And, they recently welcomed their son Garrett, after winning the contest.

The couple entered the contest after Anthony found out he wouldn't be able to conceive.

Anthony was diagnosed with testicular cancer, and due to chemotherapy treatments, doctors told him he would not be able to have children.

For any couple looking to start a family, it's devastating news.

Krista told WFTX that she thought they would not be able to start a family.

However, the "Win a Baby" contest saved them.

“Without the contest, we definitely would not have been able to have our dream of having a baby. This is really a dream come true. We never thought we’d have our miracle and we’re so happy to have our little family,” Krista said in an interview.

According to Mayo Clinic, the cost of IVF can be upwards of $12,000.

That doesn't add in the cost of additional testing and treatments for both mom and baby.

And, although they were blessed with winning the contest, Krista said labor was no joke.

She struggled through 55 hours of labor with her son, and he was moved to the NICU after delivery.

However, the family is now at home and loving their life together.

All of which would never have been possibly if it weren't for B103.9's amazing contest.

How wonderful it is to help change a family's life.
