Steve Harvey Faces Backlash For Joking About 'The Cartel' While Talking To Miss Colombia

Steve Harvey's journey with hosting the Miss Universe pageant has been an extremely bumpy one, and this year proved to be no different.

Four years ago, Harvey made headlines when he mistakenly announced Miss Colombia as the winner instead of Miss Philippines.

During this year's show, Harvey attempted to poke light at the situation with current Miss Colombia, who told him that she forgave him for the flub.

"You forgive me. Yeah, they haven't, not the cartel," Harvey joked, pointing at the crowd.

"They're not handling it the same way," he went on.

Almost immediately, social media exploded with people outraged by Harvey's joke.

Fans called for an apology.

"Hey @IAmSteveHarvey. We might forgive you for a mistake that happened years ago. But making a joke, in worldwide television about cartels and colombia's violent history is not OK. We do not condone that. It's not funny. It's hurtful. It's shameful. We expect an apology from you," wrote one fan.

"Did Steve Harvey really just make a cartel joke with Colombia standing right next to him... yikes."

"If Steve Harvey was trying to be funny with his cartel comments about Columbia, he epically failed! Those comments were very derogatory and disrespectful. Ms Columbia was smart not to engage him!" tweeted one fan.

"Steve Harvey made a cartel joke and rolled his eyes at the climate change question. Why do they let this fool host?"

Most fans responded with a pretty cut and dry review: the joke just wasn't funny.

What do you think? Was the joke not funny, or are people being too sensitive?
