Krispy Kreme Is Now Stuffing Their Classic Glazed Donuts With Cream Filling

We all have our guilty pleasures — singing hair metal ballads in the shower or watching cheesy teen dramas when we're in our 30s and supposed to know better, for example.

And for many of us, it's a sweet tooth. For some, it gets even more specific — dark chocolate, red licorice, that sort of thing. And then there's donuts. You don't have to be a cop to appreciate a good donut.

Krispy Kreme holds a special place in snack treat lore.

You don't have to love their donuts to appreciate their love for their donuts. It's all about the ritual, the clean white packaging, the flow of glaze over the golden brown rings marching out of the fryer and onto the shelves, the light going on to signal a fresh batch ready for consumption.

So, is it odd for them to try to improve on an already perfect product?

Because they're trying, introducing new cream filling for their classic glazed donuts.

Basically, it's a hybrid between those classic glazed and the classic filled donuts, with the option of either White Kreme or Chocolate Creme stuffed into those flaky, cake-y rings.

It's not just a promotion for promotion's sake.

Krispy Kreme introduced these cream-filled wonders in honor of the 50th anniversary of the Apollo 11 moon landing.

I know what you're thinking: What do donuts have to do with the moon mission? Well, as Dave Skena, Krispy Kreme's chief marketing officer noted, those donuts were part of the action on that historic day.

"Krispy Kreme was at the launch of Apollo 11, serving fresh doughnuts to Americans witnessing liftoff of this monumental mission," he said.

"As America prepares to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the moon landing, we want to give our fans a new taste experience that is out of this world."

The launch of the new donuts was accompanied by a bizarre, if not entertaining, commercial playing off all the classic archival NASA footage.

The reviews aren't quite in just yet.

So we're not sure if these are the best of both worlds or the worst, but on Saturday, June 22, you can get a free original filled to try for yourself.

Also, it's worth noting that these donuts aren't a limited time deal — they're a permanent addition to the menu, so no rush unless you want that free donut.
