Older Folks Are Talking About The Things Younger People Do That Annoy Them

There's a lot of divide between generations.

On TikTok, Gen Zers were roasting millennials for being obsessed with things like Harry Potter and The Office.

But while these two generations have been duking it out, Baby Boomers and beyond have been hurling insults at younger people in general.

it all started when Redditor u/plasticbaginthesea asked, "Older generations of Reddit, what annoys you most about the 'kids these days'?"

Here are their savage answers.

Their love of Pokémon.

This Redditor is really tired of seeing younger folks obsessed with what they call nothing more than a cartoon.

They said that they try to catch 'em all and speak about it like it was the Bible or something.

The sense of entitlement.

"Tommy has a cellphone so therefore I should be allowed to have one too. Carol has new clothes from Coach so I should get some too. Now we have a bunch of 11-year-olds walking around in designer clothes with cellphones because their parents misconstrued giving their children opportunities with spoiling the ever-loving crap out of them." - u/OfficialWhistle

Speaking of cell phones, this Reddit user has a problem with younger people saying things like, "lol" and "wyd" in sentences. Is laughing too much work, or asking someone what they're doing?

Constant narcissism.

HBO

"The special 'snowflake' that seemingly always gets a trophy for any non-accomplishment has no sense of failure. These kids need to fail at some things so they can learn critical thinking skills." - u/lowtechsupport

The inability to say no.

"If you don't want to go to an event, tell me before hand. I find this is especially bad with women I ask out. They have a habit of saying yes but standing me up." - u/TheRnegade

Not taking their headphones out when they're talking to you.

This Redditor has a bone to pick with those with do this. "Seriously. Lady Gaga needn't be your background music when I'm trying to have a conversation with you," they wrote.

Being addicted to their cellphones.

"All of the kids in high school and younger having smartphones. All they do is hang around in groups staring at their phones. I just want to say to them 'You're 13, you don't need a Blackberry to check your email or Facebook while not at home.'" - u/wheatvette

The poor work ethic.

HBO

"I'm the manager of a grocery store and a portion of our staff are late highschool/college age. These kids walk around the store like they are there to hang out. Pick up a mop johnny. They drink up all the free coffee and then spend hours in the bathroom." -u/GroceryStoreManager

They think a "good presentation" is substitute for content.

This Redditor has met a lot of kids who "know" how to talk well, yet they lack content in the things they're saying.

Their stupidity.

"Have you ever tried paying a bill with cash and you hand them change so that you get an even dollar amount back they either look at you with a blank stare, say they already rang you up in the register (basically admitting they can't do the math in their head)." - u/Nadtastic

Needing excessive coddling and praise.

"Everyone on a soccer team getting a trophy so no one feels left out is a terrible idea. Telling your kid a 70 on an arithmetic test is acceptable as long as they tried their best will do nothing for them in the long run." - u/sexponentialgrowth

Playing music in inappropriate places, like on the bus.

This Redditor suggests that younger people have some consideration and use headphones instead. No one else wants to hear rap at 6 a.m.!

Doing so would sound better and annoy fewer people around them.

How overweight some of them are.

"I am totally disgusted by the obese nature of many American teens. I'm 46, and fit as a fiddle, always have been. When I was a kid, we had the chubby kid in the class now and then, but now a majority of kids I see are overweight. Mostly, I'm ashamed of their parenting." - u/deleted

Their terrible taste in music.

"Sure, most kids liked either Eminem or Take That when I was a kid, but there were always at least some kids in the class or school who liked something else. EVERYTHING is packaged for them these days; the absolute rebels in the school stand out by declaring their love for All American Rejects." - u/GavinZac

Always being late.

Unsplash | insung yoon

Since this Redditor was raised by their grandma, they were taught to always be early. A lot of younger folks don't possess this habit. Instead, they're late to almost everything they commit themselves to.

Always having to be "connected" to the rest of the world.

"Back in my day when you were out and about if you could not get to a payphone, or if you didn't have any money with you, you were [expletive] out of luck." - u/dwc1970

Their lack of resourcefulness.

Unsplash | Nicolò Canu

"If there isn't 'an App for that' they are clueless. Not their fault. The technology I had when growing up helped me think MORE. You could take things apart and learn how they work. Sole purpose of technology today is to have people think LESS." - u/midnitewarrior

Not dressing properly.

One Redditor has a real pet peeve about younger generations wearing things like flip flops to the office and sweatpants when going out. They think that decent shoes and a nice outfit every once in a while won't kill them.

High expectations.

"Once I was talking to a girl and she said that she would become a rich celebrity, when I asked her how she knew she'd become rich and famous she said 'Because I'm sure I will.'" - u/Jipip

Older generations, is there anything else you'd add?
