13+ People Who Were Thinking Outside The Box

I once thought I had invented something new when I ran out of hamburger buns and placed a burger patty inside a tortilla and called it a "burgerito." Let me tell you, there's a reason you can't find burgeritos on store shelves. It was not a good idea.

But even good ideas aren't always the most practical or applicable to daily life, and that can mean that they don't get much time in the spotlight. However, we feel that some of them deserve more attention.

Someone decided to make themselves a little go-kart out of a recycling bin.

Reddit | Master_of_Spinners

Which, frankly, is some fine and fun recycling in itself, even if you can't really drive it to work every day.

Okay, here's one I need in my life yesterday.

This dishwasher has a shelf just for those large utensils, the big serving spoons and spatulas and flippers and whatnot.

No more cluttering up the other racks with that stuff!

This kitchen has a drawer that doubles as a paper towel dispenser.

Reddit | rishortish

Apparently, when you fly Aeroflot, you get a sleeping mask that lets you inform flight attendants whether to wake you up or not.

Reddit | alngrd

Reddit | Luke_7

It's kind of amusing, kind of practical, and not the sort of thing you see too often.

Why was this chimney made twisty instead of straight?

Reddit | Schwiftmister

Who knows? But the twist doesn't affect its performance at all, and it adds something to the skyline at least.

Old tires were given new life as an elephant here.

Reddit | traileranderson

And a fine job the artist did, too, especially around the eye. It doesn't have to be useful to be cool!

I love this wrought-iron Beetle.

Reddit | bofadoze

It's probably even less enjoyable to drive than a regular Beetle, especially in the rain, but it's still a sweet ride.

Would you press the shuffle button in this elevator?

Reddit | sminkybang

I don't even know what it does. I mean, it probably takes you to a random floor, but I don't know that for sure. But yeah, I would push it to find out.

Somebody made an ice cube tray that makes ice just for water bottles.

Reddit | AnicecupofT

I'm not sure if this is more effective than just freezing the water bottle, or if you'll end up choking on an ice cube, but it's a neat idea.

At a parking lot in Hawaii, the lines are grass instead of paint.

Reddit | TheNeptunian

Some say it would be a pain to have to mow them, and worry about roots in the pavement, but I like more greenery.

If sundials weren't horribly obsolete, I'd want one like this.

Basically, you stand on the month, and where your shadow lands shows you what time it is.

When your baguette is bigger than the bag you're carrying it in, you might have to come up with a solution to keep it fresh.

Reddit | roejieks

A simple tumbler over top did the trick for this person! Much better than living the baguette-less life.

Okay, this is 100% how all assemble-yourself furniture should be packaged.

Reddit | ParzivalsQuest

Someone decided to get their Tesla chromed to the max.

Reddit | tardissomethingblue

Well, shiny rose gold anyway — still, a unique look that would be sure to stand out in a parking lot, and probably annoy every other driver on the road on a sunny day.

Sometimes "thinking outside the box" does involve literal boxes.

Reddit | bradshaw1992

Like how this library has packaged up movie series and themes of films so you can take out a whole "Binge Box."

You know you're a devoted gecko owner when you re-create Jurassic Park in its terrarium.

Reddit | JurassicGecko

Also, a fun gecko owner. That must have taken a while to put together, but it's so worth the effort.

SUV owners do like to get creative with the covers for their spare tires.

Reddit | san4oart

But I think this is the first one I've ever seen with a pic of the spare with a pic of the spare with of the spare, and so on, on it.

Is installing a trampoline in the ground the safer option?

Reddit | Jumbo_Cow

I guess if you jump off the edge, you don't fall quite as far, so there's that. But drainage below has to be an issue.

In San Antonio, you can find bus benches that are also maps of the area.

Reddit | OptimisticEgg

Here's a seatbelt safety sign that sure gets a message across.

Reddit | JetyWawoo

Reddit | Viroraptor

Reddit | Sir_Orrin

Just think of how awesome it would be to store your underwear in there for cold winter days.

Someone staying at a hostel discovered a soap dispenser that shreds soap like Parmesan cheese.

Reddit | sleddirleveret

That's a new one for me, and it actually seems like a good money-saver. You'd have to be pretty determined to waste soap there.

Thinking...with...the box?

Reddit | Levlixx

A clock that shows the time by the week instead of by the day is an odd one.

Reddit | creezewe

Reddit | iminiki
