Identical Twin Nurses Help Deliver Identical Twin Babies At Their Birth Hospital

Being a twin myself, it's sometimes easy for me to forget how remarkable twins are, and I find myself often glossing over stories of double deliveries because that's just so old hat to me.

But every once in awhile, I'll hear a story about a set of twins that makes me stop in my tracks and give my best, most Keanu-esque "whoa".

This would be one of those stories.

Last month, twin nurses at a Georgia hospital found themselves in the delivery room together for the first time ever.

According to CNN, sisters Tori Howad and Tara Drinkard have worked at Piedmont Athens Regional for years, but have never really crossed paths professionally. Tori works in the neonatal intensive care unit (NICU) and, until recently, Tara had been working in the emergency room before making the switch to the labor and delivery unit.

Now the girls are at least in the same area of the hospital together, a change which would ultimately lead to the most incredible twin delivery possible.

On September 25, Brannan and Rebecca Williams came to the hospital to deliver their twin girls, Addison and Emma.

Just moments before the girls were born, Tori and Tara learned they'd be working in the same delivery room for the first time.

"For every c-section that labor and delivery does, we have one NICU nurse that goes because c-sections are higher risk," Tori told Good Morning America.

"I was excited to go to a delivery with my sister but it didn't really cross my mind — we're twins and they're twins."

According to new dad Brannan, learning that a set of identical twins would be helping to delivery his own actually helped relieve some of his anxiety about the impending procedure.

"I was really nervous about the walk into the C-section room," he told CNN. "And then learning that I was like, oh, that's pretty cool! It kind of relaxed me a little bit."

Addison Williams was born at 12:42 p.m. and her sister, Emma, arrived just three minutes later.

"It was pretty neat because Tara took care of Becca in the labor and delivery room and Tori was taking care of Emma in the NICU," Brannan said.

What's even more incredible? These identical twin nurses delivered identical twin babies in the very same hospital where they too were born 26 years ago.

Brannan said he and his wife, Rebecca, have kept in touch with Tara and Tori since the delivery of their twin girls.

"[Tara and Tori] have become our friends," he said. "I look forward to letting the girls know about this one day, and hopefully they'll get to meet them and keep carrying this thing on."

Emma and Addison are scheduled to go home today, armed with one pretty incredible birth story that they can tell for years to come. You know, once they can talk.
