A Winery Is Following Distancing Protocol By Having A Dog Do Curbside Deliveries

With social distancing protocols firmly in place around the world, it can make stocking up on your favorite items somewhat difficult. But one winery in Maryland has figured out a way to observe distancing while also putting a smile on their customers' faces.

Meet Soda Pup.

Stone House Urban Winery in Hagerstown is a beloved local winery that has a lot to its credit, not the least of which is their resident dog Soda Pup, an 11-year-old boxer.

Soda Pup was sad that customers stopped coming into the winery, so his mom found a way for him to connect with the community once again.

Stone House owner Lori Yata told TODAY that Soda Pup was looking sad after customers stopped coming in. So, she decided to put him to work and task him with doing curbside deliveries of wine.

It's a bespoke service of sorts.

To get the VIP four-legged treatment, customers can call Stone House to order their bottles. Then, when it's time for pick-up, they can pull into the parking lot, call in, and request that Soda Pup deliver their loot.

“When we get the call, I hold up Soda's vest and he hurries on over. Not exaggerating, he really hurries over and stands ready,” Yata said.

He's an eager worker, although he isn't always super focused.

Soda is very smart, as is typical of his breed, and always up to the task. Yata said that it took a few tries for him to stop whacking the door frame in his eagerness to get out, but he's mastered his craft now.

Of course, she does first check to make sure there aren't distractions like geese or squirrels, before sending him out.

"Come on, he is a dog!"
